Pierre Gasly: The conditions were extremely difficult

In Las Vegas, Pierre Gasly reached the qualifying final, while his Alpine teammate Franco Colapinto was eliminated in the second session…

Pierre Gasly (10th): “A positive qualifying — we made it to the final again, which I’m very pleased with. The conditions were extremely challenging, among the toughest of my career, with rain and a cold track. We immediately showed good pace on the wet surface and were competitive on full-wet tyres, but in the final we couldn’t get the intermediates up to temperature.

Tomorrow we go into the unknown, as in yesterday’s practice we hardly ran with a lot of fuel. We’ll do everything to score points. I hope this time we’ll avoid incidents.”

Franco Colapinto (15th): “We made progress compared to yesterday, and in the difficult wet conditions we were among the best. If it weren’t for a mistake on the last quick lap, I would have been close to making the qualifying final. I was driving quite well, improving my time, but I clipped the kerb and lost control of the car in turn 15. Fortunately I managed to avoid hitting the wall, but I lost a lot of time.

I hope tomorrow will be dry, we can make up ground and fight for points.”
