Concorde Agreement has been signed, and Ben Sulayem has been re-elected.
"Equity, stability, and collective aspiration"
The long-term future of Formula 1 was officially secured last Friday in Tashkent as the FIA, Formula 1 Group, and all 11 teams signed the ninth Concorde Agreement, ensuring governance and participation through the end of the decade. The agreement, signed during the FIA General Assembly and awards week in Uzbekistan, finalizes the framework initially established earlier this year regarding the commercial aspects, confirming grid stability until 2030, which includes the addition of the Cadillac team. FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem remarked that the agreement brings "equity, stability, and collective ambition," while F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali referred to it as "a significant day," ensuring the sport can continue its global expansion. The signing occurred as Ben Sulayem was also officially re-elected for a second four-year term as FIA president, despite ongoing controversies regarding governance reforms and the election process. He remained unapologetic in Tashkent, asserting that he would change "nothing" from his first term and dismissing the criticisms as part of the role. The 64-year-old also made headlines at the FIA award gala by playfully tousling new world champion Lando Norris’ hair on stage, a moment that quickly went viral. Max Verstappen was notably absent from the event, with the FIA confirming that the four-time world champion and 2025 runner-up was excused from the mandatory gathering on medical advice due to flu-like symptoms.
