Leaks are common. In the automotive industry, they typically occur when a car manufacturer is seen testing or transporting a vehicle that hasn't been officially unveiled. This scenario played out when an unconnected user posted images of Brabus’ upcoming “Bodo” supercar on a specialized subreddit. Added to the irony, Brabus had just shared a teaser of the model on Instagram through a series of shadowy images, despite the fact that many had already seen the car in full view.

The Reddit user removed the images they uploaded to r/whatisthiscar after users noted it was meant to be kept confidential. One commenter remarked, “This looks like the Brabus 77/BODO, which hasn’t been revealed yet.” Another provided a screenshot of the original poster stating, “I’ll take more pictures tomorrow; maybe we can identify it better then.” Unsurprisingly, that was also deleted.

A source managed to capture the photos before they were erased from the Reddit post, and now we have them here:

It is undoubtedly the vehicle that Brabus teased on Instagram. You can spot the “77” just below the rear glass, and the Mercedes SL headlights correspond with those seen in a post from the previous week. The possibility of plausible deniability is no longer viable.

The details of the car’s specifications remain uncertain, but since it appears to be based on the Mercedes-AMG SL63, it likely features a biturbo V8 engine. The standard version produces 577 horsepower and 593 lb-ft of torque, while the plug-in hybrid S E Performance variant boasts 805 hp and 1,047 lb-ft of torque. However, I do not see a charge port on the rear bumper, which suggests that Brabus’ special edition relies solely on gasoline and boost.

Brabus already provides the Rocket GT based on the AMG SL, which delivers 1,000 hp. There’s no assurance this will be more powerful, but it showcases what can be achieved with this platform. Regardless, it may not be long before the specialty manufacturer fully reveals the car.

At least they made an effort.
