Three candidates for the position of head of Aston Martin

We wrote that Aston Martin is looking for a new team principal who will work alongside Adrian Newey. The search for a new team principal began at the end of 2025 when Newey temporarily took on the role, replacing Andy Cowell, and is not related to Aston Martin's current results. According to PlanetF1.com, Adrian Newey is personally leading the search for a new principal. Several candidates have been considered, including former Aston Martin Group CEO Martin Whitmarsh, Verstappen's racing engineer Gianpiero Lambiase, both top Audi executives – Mattia Binotto and Jonathan Wheatley, former McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl, and Christian Horner, who was dismissed from Red Bull Racing. Some have declined, while others, if they agree, will face a lengthy mandatory leave. Currently, the main candidates are considered to be Wheatley, Seidl, and Horner. Aston Martin prefers not to rush and wants to find the optimal option for the long term, taking into account the stability that Adrian Newey's presence in this position provides.
