The 2027 Infiniti QX65 Provides Nissan's Luxury Division with Something All Its Competitors Already Possess.

      Recently, Infiniti has been emphasizing a comeback, beginning with an updated product lineup. The 2027 QX65, as showcased here, may not be a revival of the G35, but it does provide Nissan’s luxury division with something its rivals have: a sleek-roofed midsize SUV that compromises some practicality to make a statement in style.

      Is this statement effective? From what we can see in the images, the QX65 appears to fit seamlessly alongside established models like the BMW X6, Audi Q5, and Genesis GV80 Coupe. Ironically, one could argue that Infiniti pioneered this genre with the FX over 20 years ago.

      The classic design technique of utilizing bright accents to create a sportier aesthetic against a black roof is just as effective here as it is on the QX65’s competitors. The grille stands out with its complex surfacing, and I particularly admire the metallic flake Sunfire finish seen in these promotional images.

      In many ways, the QX65 will feel quite familiar. Essentially, it's a modified QX60 with a bit taken off the top and the removal of the third row of seats. Under the hood lies a turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 268 horsepower and 286 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. There are speculations that the QX65 might eventually feature a V6 engine and a performance-oriented Red Sport variant that matches the striking exterior color, but for now, those speculations remain unconfirmed. Every QX65 will come standard with all-wheel drive.

      Inside, the QX65 impresses, especially in its top-tier Autograph trim. The red diamond-pattern upholstery and dashboard contrast beautifully with the brushed aluminum-like silver accents and dark wood tones. In fact, the overall ambiance strongly reminds me of a Genesis G80 I drove last year. While Infiniti might not welcome the comparison to a significant competitor that has already established this aesthetic, I genuinely mean it as a compliment. Genesis has achieved numerous design successes, and Infiniti needs to reestablish its presence in the luxury crossover market.

      Consequently, the QX65 is loaded with technology. The 12.3-inch central touchscreen operates with a Google Built-In interface, and two Klipsch audio systems are available: one featuring 16 speakers and an 8-inch subwoofer, and a more advanced “Reference Premiere” system with 20 speakers, including some integrated into the front-seat headrests. Although headrest speakers aren’t a new concept, these appear to be more prominent than usual, almost like ears.

      Just below the climate controls—and its somewhat frustrating capacitive buttons—there’s a Qi2 wireless charging pad, standard on every QX65. Typically, I wouldn't pay much attention to wireless chargers, but Nissan’s has proven effective these days, as it's sufficiently powerful and includes a cooling fan and magnets.

      The 2027 Infiniti QX65 is expected to arrive in showrooms this summer, starting at a price of $55,535.
