🏁 That disguised rally car Toyota has been testing rather overtly lately? According to Autocar, it has been indicated that it will be named the “Celica Sport,” it will feature all-wheel drive (no surprise there), and Toyota’s upcoming 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is expected in the production model, possibly with an electrified boost to meet emissions standards. This last point is confirmed, as Gazoo Racing marketing manager Mikio Hayashi stated to the publication, “Nothing has been decided yet about whether it will be a standard hybrid or plug-in hybrid.”
🏭 Ford CEO Jim Farley recently discussed a variety of topics with Top Gear, particularly the automaker’s new Universal EV Production System, which aims to significantly lower manufacturing costs, time, and complexity. “No one’s ever built a car in high volume like this,” Farley noted. “A car every 50 seconds.”
🌎 Following Hyundai’s announcement of a 36-model push in North America, the automaker revealed plans for 80% of the vehicles it sells in the U.S. to be manufactured domestically by 2030, as reported by Automotive News. Currently, that figure is around 50%.
🚢 Ferrari has restarted deliveries to the Middle East after a brief pause, as reported by Auto News through Reuters.
🛑 The same Solihull, U.K. plant that Jaguar Land Rover had to shut down for six weeks due to a cyberattack is currently on pause again, this time due to a supplier issue, according to Reuters.
🚐 Ford introduced a new Transit City electric commercial van, produced in China using a platform co-developed with one of its regional partners. However, don’t anticipate it making its way to Europe.
