Sergio Perez: Cadillac faster than Aston Martin
Sergio Perez finished seventeenth in Suzuka, which was his worst result of the season; however, the Mexican driver called his performance at the Japanese Grand Prix the strongest of the year. His Cadillac teammate Valtteri Bottas was the only one in the field to start on Hard tires, but the strategy didn't work, and Valtteri finished nineteenth.
Sergio Perez (17th): "Today was our strongest race of the year. The team has made huge progress in a short time, and we can be pleased that both cars finished the race again.
Yesterday there were issues with energy usage, but they didn't repeat today. We were clearly faster than Aston Martin and see that our pace is gradually increasing. I hope that the updates the team is preparing for the Miami race will allow us to get even more involved in the fight."
Valtteri Bottas (19th): "Another finish with both cars is a great result for the team. I was a bit lacking in speed, so it was difficult to compete with Aston Martin today. We need to figure out what caused that.
We decided to try an alternative strategy by starting on Hard, but unfortunately, it didn't work. However, the whole weekend went much cleaner due to fewer issues. We learned a lot and will be able to use the experience gained to improve in the next races.
There is a break in the calendar after the first three races, which will give us the opportunity to analyze everything we've learned and spend more time developing the car. The team has a great attitude, and we are fully focused on preparing for our home Grand Prix in Miami."
