The construction of the above-ground section of the Kiddia route has begun.
When negotiations began for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the talk was about a track in the city-park of Qiddiya, 45 kilometers from Riyadh, but for several years it existed only on paper, and there was a desire to hold the race sooner – a temporary track was decided to be built in Jeddah, which turned out to be quite spectacular.
But the Qiddiya Speed Park project will be realized – the Grand Prix is set to move there in 2028, and construction work is currently underway, with the next phase having started last week.
The organizers report the beginning of construction of the ground portion of the track, designed by Hermann Tilke and former driver Alex Wurz. The configuration includes 21 turns, it will be longer than Spa, and the first turn, Blade, is planned to be located at an elevation of over 70 meters.
