Martin Brundle is worried about Carlos Sainz.

Martin Brundle, a former Formula 1 driver and now a popular TV commentator, is concerned about Carlos Sainz, who, along with the Williams team, found himself in a very difficult position at the start of the season.

The Spanish driver has four victories to his name, achieved during his time with Ferrari, and another 25 podiums, with Carlos finishing in the top three twice already driving for Williams. But that was last year, and in 2026 the team has slipped to 9th place in the Constructors' Championship.

The situation would be even worse if Sainz hadn't managed to earn a couple of points in China, but everyone understands that this happened due to a stroke of luck, as both McLaren cars did not start in that race.

Brundle believes that Sainz will face significant difficulties if he tries to move to a more competitive team. When Martin was asked if Carlos could leave Williams, he replied, "Where can he go? He was at McLaren, raced for Toro Rosso, collaborating with Red Bull at the time. He was also at Ferrari, and now he's at Williams.

There are no vacancies at Mercedes. Of course, he also raced for Renault, which is now called Alpine. It's hard to understand where he could go to find a more promising option while avoiding a return to places that, for one reason or another, decided to part ways with him.

Overall, he is faced with a very difficult choice. I worry for him, as he is a true fighter, even if I believe he doesn't have the absolute talent that Max Verstappen possesses. Carlos, like his father, is very persistent, and that often helps him.

Some races in which Sainz achieved victories, he performed brilliantly, but now he is in a tough spot, as over the years of his career he has raced for almost half of the teams in the championship. Overall, I don't know where he could go unless a vacancy suddenly opens up – for example, if Red Bull unexpectedly needs a driver because Max decides to switch to GT, get into virtual racing, or something else."
