Toyota has decided that Rovanperä is not ready for Super Formula.
In March, we reported that Kalle Rovanperä, the two-time world rally champion, had to abandon plans to switch to circuit racing due to health issues. However, as it turned out later, it was not just about that.
In an interview with Motorsport.com, Masaya Kaijiri, head of the racing programs at Toyota, acknowledged before the first round of the season in the Japanese Super Formula series: "This decision was largely influenced by Akio Toyoda (president of Toyota Motor Corporation). He took responsibility for the decision, which was difficult for everyone involved in this project.
But when it comes to a championship of this level, there is no point in participating in races without proper preparation. When Kalle is fully ready, both physically and psychologically, then we will take the next step together. He really had less time to prepare than ideally needed, but I think next time he will be able to prepare properly...
For now, we must follow the doctors' recommendations and give him enough time to rest and recover. Speaking of this next step, the options could vary. We'll see how the situation develops, and then we'll make a decision together, but that will happen later."
