Schumacher cautions Leclerc against a switch to Red Bull amidst the 'chaos.'
Ralf Schumacher has cautioned Charles Leclerc against the temptation to switch to Red Bull amid increasing speculation that the team could aim for the Ferrari driver if Max Verstappen leaves. There are rumors suggesting Leclerc might be becoming frustrated with his prolonged title wait at Ferrari, while Red Bull is closely observing the situation. However, Schumacher believes that both the timing and the move would not be wise.
"To be honest, in the current circumstances, Red Bull isn’t really the obvious choice for drivers," he told Sky Deutschland. "It’s a long-term project once again. The team is currently a bit disorganized – it’s quite chaotic, and there is poor communication with the outside world."
The former F1 driver also expressed doubts about whether Red Bull would present a clearer route to success compared to Ferrari, which he thinks is now becoming more stable. "I’m not sure if it makes sense for Charles Leclerc to leave a team that is just starting to work well," he remarked. "It wouldn’t be very wise. Ferrari needs to develop new young talents, but they must retain one, particularly Charles Leclerc. It’s not advisable."
Indeed, while Lewis Hamilton has returned to a stronger form in 2026, there is growing anticipation in the paddock that Ferrari will eventually shift to a new generation, with Oliver Bearman strongly linked to a future race seat and even endorsed for that role by his Haas boss Ayao Komatsu.
Leclerc, for his part, continues to express his loyalty to Ferrari. "The passion and love I have for this team remain unchanged," he stated to Gianluca Gazzoli on the BSMT vodcast. "This is what makes Ferrari unique. We all need to work together to bring Ferrari back to the top."
Meanwhile, former Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko acknowledges that the team's own situation is far from stable after a challenging start to 2026. "The start in Melbourne was fine. However, the updates then took the car in the wrong direction," he told motorsport-magazin.com in Vienna. "The Max factor only works if he trusts the car, which is not the case at the moment."
