The FIA confirmed changes to the calendar.
The FIA confirmed changes to the competition calendar following the cancellation of events in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, announcing the addition of two extra rounds of Formula 2.
"FIA Formula 2 announces that Miami and Montreal will host the second and third rounds of the season as part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix – these series rounds will take place in North America for the first time.
The opportunity to include Miami and Montreal in the Formula 2 calendar arose after the news that the rounds in Sakhir and Jeddah would not take place in April.
The Formula 2 rounds will take place from May 1 to 3 in Miami, and then in Montreal from May 22 to 24, after which the races will return to Europe, starting with the round in Monaco from June 4 to 7," the statement said.
Bruno Michel, Executive Director of Formula 2: "We enjoyed racing in Sakhir and Jeddah, we wish them all the best and look forward to returning as soon as circumstances allow. We are excited to hold the second and third rounds of the season in Miami and Montreal.
I would like to thank Stefano Domenicali and Formula 1 for their support, which made this possible, as well as the FIA, the organizers of the Miami and Canadian Grands Prix, and of course, my team, who worked hard to create two new rounds in such a short time.
It was not easy to tackle this task, but to hold Formula 2 races in North America for the first time is fantastically great. We have wanted this for a long time. Teams and drivers have enthusiastically received this news. I am sure the quality of the races will please fans and everyone who attends these Grands Prix."
Formula 3 will not travel to North America; the season will continue in early June with the round in Monaco.
