Liam Lawson: The start of the season has been positive.
The Racing Bulls press service published an interview with Liam Lawson, in which he assessed the start of the season, talked about working with teammate Arvid Lindblad, and discussed the team's plans for the upcoming races.
Question: How are you spending the April break in the championship?
Liam Lawson: I spent more than a week in New Zealand because I needed to get a new passport. I managed to spend a lot of time with my family, whom I don't see very often, and ride my motocross bike. Right now, I'm using the break to prepare for the Miami race. We have a lot of simulator work planned, and I will spend time at the team's base in Faenza.
Question: How do you assess the start of the season?
Liam Lawson: The preparation for the season went well, and we arrived in Melbourne in great shape. We looked even stronger than at the other two races. The team managed to get the most out of the car, and they did an excellent job.
Our next goal is to achieve greater efficiency from the car, and as soon as we do that, we will be able to fight for higher positions. This season, we have managed to score points at every race, which creates a solid foundation for further progress.
Question: What can you say about the very tight competition in the midfield?
Liam Lawson: This year, the car behaves in such a way that you have to choose – either go through the corners as quickly as possible, which is especially relevant in qualifying, or conserve battery charge. Balancing both is very challenging, and for us drivers, it's the hardest thing to get used to.
So far, this is not as critical for our team as it is for the leading teams, but as our speed increases, this factor will be felt more strongly. I already noticed this at the race in Japan.
At the same time, we have a very competitive power unit, especially considering that this is the first season for the engine. We are squeezing the maximum out of the car, and as soon as we improve in speed and downforce, we will make a significant step forward.
Question: Have you managed to adapt to the new regulations?
Liam Lawson: The start of the season has been unusual: the cars have changed significantly, and we are still adapting to them. All teams are currently on equal footing, so it's important to find working solutions together. So far, we are effectively utilizing the car's capabilities, and important and interesting updates are ahead of us.
From a regulatory standpoint, the main priority is safety, and everyone is unanimous on this issue, especially after what happened in Japan. We need to prevent similar situations from happening in the future. As for speed, it will always increase, and over time, the cars will inevitably become faster.
Question: What is the atmosphere like in the team? Have you bonded with your new teammate Arvid Lindblad?
Liam Lawson: So far, everything is going smoothly and without major difficulties. This year, a lot depends on us, as with the new cars, it's especially important how we work together with the team.
It's nice to compete alongside a teammate I've known for a long time. Arvid is doing great as a rookie and is performing at a high level.
Question: What are your expectations for the upcoming races?
Liam Lawson: For us, the main priority, as for all teams, is further development. We are preparing serious updates that are especially important this season, as we have to work under tighter deadlines. We will continue to actively use the simulator to implement updates more effectively.
Reliability is very good, and from a strategic standpoint, we are acting confidently. Overall, the start of the season has been positive, and we intend to continue in the same spirit.
