McLaren drivers are confident that they will fight for victories.
Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are confident that the MCL40 car has a significant potential, and throughout the season, they will still have the opportunity to fight for victories.
So far, all three completed races have been won by Mercedes drivers, with them securing double victories for their team in Australia and China, and only in Japan did Piastri manage to finish second.
"I believe in our team, that we will catch up and regularly fight for victories this season," Oscar said in an interview with the McLaren press service. "In the third stage of the championship, although we fell behind the leader towards the end of the distance, we managed to exceed our initial expectations. And if it weren't for the safety car, we could have contended for victory.
A huge amount of work lies ahead to catch up and consistently compete in the front rows, but the team is capable of catching up with Mercedes and outpacing others in terms of technology upgrades. The team has proven that it can turn the tide, and now we are in a more favorable position than in previous years, for example, compared to 2024.
I fully trust the team and have no doubt that they will do everything possible for us to fight for victories, and I really want to see what we can achieve."
Lando Norris also has a quite positive outlook and supported his teammate: "I think we can have a good season, even if we are not performing at the level we want to be right now. And although the start wasn't the best, we are still determined to fight for the championship victory.
The team is not going to give up and switch to preparing for 2027 – that's not the case. I'm not even sure that such an approach can work. There have been many instances when at the beginning of the year we were not at the level we wanted to be, but by the end of the championship, we were in higher positions. The team is now stronger than it was in 2023 or 2024.
We have learned a lot, become more experienced, and I believe this team knows how to act. There is a lot of work ahead, but we are ready for it."
