Officially: The Turkish Grand Prix is returning to Formula 1

In Formula 1, the return of the Turkish Grand Prix to the calendar has been announced. The parties have signed a five-year contract, according to which the race at the Istanbul Park circuit, located in the Asian part of Istanbul, will take place in 2027. This was stated at a joint press conference in the capital of Turkey by the country's president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Stefano Domenicali, the CEO and president of Formula 1. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan: "Formula 1 is among the most popular sports in the world, characterized by its spectacular nature, a younger audience of fans, and leadership in automotive technology. In our country, people of all age groups are also passionate about Formula 1, especially the youth, and we have a truly passionate audience. Turkey has hosted Formula 1 races nine times – seven of them took place from 2005 to 2011, and two during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021. The Istanbul Park circuit, famous primarily for its 8th turn, is loved by motorsport enthusiasts, and it will once again host races for five seasons – from 2027 to 2031. I believe that the return of the Turkish Grand Prix to the Formula 1 calendar clearly confirms the trust in our country, in our organizational capabilities, and demonstrates faith in our sports and medical infrastructure. And, of course, in the hospitality of the Turkish people. I express my sincere congratulations to everyone who contributed to the return of Formula 1 to our country and to Istanbul. I hope that Turkey's cooperation with Formula 1 will only strengthen over the years." Stefano Domenicali: "We are pleased to be returning to Istanbul starting in 2027, this incredibly interesting city. All our fans in Turkey and around the world will appreciate this, as Istanbul Park is one of the most interesting and challenging tracks in Formula 1. I want to thank President Erdoğan, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation for their support in bringing Formula 1 back. This circuit is associated with many memorable moments that have entered the history of the championship, and I am thrilled that a new chapter in our cooperation is beginning." Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of FIA: "The return of Formula 1 to Turkey is a vivid reflection of the ongoing global growth and popularity of our sport. I am glad to see that the Turkish Grand Prix is returning to the Formula 1 World Championship calendar. The Istanbul Park circuit holds a special place in the history of Formula 1, and its return emphasizes our collective commitment to expanding the championship in dynamically developing markets. I am grateful to the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Eren Üçler Toprağı, President of the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED), which is part of FIA. Through this close cooperation, we are not only ensuring the long-term future of Formula 1 in Turkey but also supporting the further development of motorsport, strengthening the foundations for sustainable growth in the coming years." On the streets of Istanbul on Friday, Yuki Tsunoda drove a Red Bull Formula 1 car – from the cruise port on the Bosphorus to the presidential palace.
