Tombasis: We are not clarifying the regulations for the last time.

FIA Director of Single-Seater Racing Nicholas Tombazis believes that the need to adjust the regulations arose because teams built more efficient cars than anticipated…

Nicholas Tombazis: “From the very first day of these rules, we knew that when the ratio of electrical energy to internal combustion engine energy reaches a certain level, managing energy consumption becomes a complex task. We tried to mitigate these complexities by making several compromises.

One reason why things haven’t gone smoothly this year is that the cars are going a bit faster and generating more downforce than we expected. Therefore, the energy recovered during braking turned out to be a bit lower than we would like.

About a year ago, we proposed to reduce the power [from 350 to 200 kW], but that proposal was rejected. It was decided to hold several races and then make changes if necessary, which is what happened.

It is clear that this will not be the last time we clarify these regulations. We will continue to monitor the situation and make new adjustments if necessary.”
