Silverstone presents a second Grand Prix due to concerns over possible additional disruptions.
At present, the sport is dealing with the consequences.
Silverstone has proposed to hold a second Formula 1 race this year amid concerns that additional events in the Middle East may be canceled. With Bahrain and Saudi Arabia already eliminated due to the ongoing conflict, there's currently a five-week gap in the calendar, which is just now being resolved, leaving uncertainty about the rest of the season.
Stuart Pringle, managing director of Silverstone, stated that the British circuit is prepared to assist. "I have made an offer, as we stepped in during COVID and were able to support Formula 1. If that would help them, we will certainly do so," he told Sky News. "However, there are many practical considerations to take into account. The offer is on the table, they know we are available, and we can act quickly if needed."
When asked if Silverstone has availability in its already full schedule, he replied, "I take pride in not having spare time slots - but in a crisis, everything can be adjusted."
Formula 1 acknowledged that the situation continues to be very unpredictable. "Everyone can simply look at the news on TV every day - this situation is highly fluid and dynamic," said F1 communications chief Liam Parker. "No one knows what will happen tomorrow, let alone in September and October. We have a considerable amount of time before our events that require us to return to the Middle East region."
For now, the sport is handling the aftermath. "Clearly, there are challenges and complexities we must navigate, but these aren’t fatal issues at this juncture," Parker said. "These are challenges we can manage."
"Naturally, everyone is experiencing rising costs and increased burdens, as well as rerouting things - but we are managing to do it effectively."
