Stella: The task is to adapt to the conditions.
McLaren drivers dominated the Saturday sprint, securing a winning double for their team, but they were unable to replicate that success in the main qualifying session of the weekend. Lando Norris will start the Miami Grand Prix from 4th position, Oscar Piastri from 7th, and Andrea Stella, the head of the British team, attempted to explain the difference in results on Sky Sports.
Andrea Stella: "I think that even on Friday after the qualifying for the sprint, having secured pole position, we mentioned that actually the cars from different teams could have been in our place. But Mercedes had difficulties with the hybrid system, which was not delivering energy optimally, and Charles Leclerc made a couple of mistakes.
Overall, I believe that in reality, due to a combination of two factors – the technical innovations prepared for this stage and the characteristics of the track configuration – four teams are very close in their capabilities. And the results depend more on how well each team handles their tasks. Additionally, the weather conditions changed on Saturday, with the direction and strength of the wind being quite different.
We had to deal with a number of issues related to the stability of the power unit, and the drivers needed to find their rhythm. It seems that in this regard, some other teams performed better than us. So the teams are very close in their capabilities, and it’s more about the quality and effectiveness of their actions.
But I believe that this is great news for Formula 1, promising an interesting and exciting race. Moreover, the weather factor may come into play, so we can expect a lot of events on the track. Our task is to adapt to these conditions and respond to them correctly."
