Mekies is a 'strong supporter' during Hadjar's difficulties with Red Bull.
"All weekend I was pushing my limits."
Isack Hadjar is already facing scrutiny following a challenging weekend in Miami, with French media questioning if the notorious "second seat curse" next to Max Verstappen is affecting him again. L’Equipe correspondent Frederic Ferret highlighted concerns after the young French driver struggled to keep up with Verstappen’s speed in the upgraded Red Bull, eventually crashing out of the race. However, he emphasized that the driver still has strong internal support. "Laurent Mekies is a strong advocate for him," Ferret noted.
Hadjar’s race took a turn for the worse when he had to begin from the pitlane due to a technical violation by the team during qualifying. He mounted a strong comeback, but it ended abruptly. Hadjar acknowledged that the error came after a weekend of testing his limits. "All weekend I was on the limit and I was comfortable with that limit. But this time, it didn’t work out," Hadjar told Canal Plus. "I wasn’t precise enough, I took too many risks in a 57-lap race. I wasn’t very smart."
His frustration was evident. "I’m angry because the pace was good. I was catching up so easily," he shared. "I’m throwing points away foolishly. I’m very frustrated, and on top of that, I damaged the car, which matters too." The 21-year-old Hadjar has 4 points compared to Verstappen’s 26.
