Science: The new items should have appeared in the first race.
Williams was among the teams that brought a seriously upgraded car to the Miami Grand Prix, and this immediately reflected in the results. On Sunday, for the first time this season, both Williams drivers scored points. After the finish, Carlos Sainz mentioned that these updates were originally supposed to appear on the FW48 back in Melbourne.
Carlos Sainz: "Finally, we brought updates. Due to delays at the beginning of the season, we have only just brought the new features that were supposed to appear on the car in the first race.
Now we have a car that shows the same level as the cars of the midfield teams. We know that the FW48 is still too heavy, but overall the progress is positive.
This weekend we were sixth in terms of speed, but Alpine is ahead of us by 25 seconds. If it weren't for the safety car, we would have been 25-30 seconds behind them. So the gap to Alpine is still significant, and I can't even imagine the gap to the leading teams. But these updates should serve as a starting point for further work."
