The latest car news and reviews, no nonsense.
We all know the three certainties in life: death, taxes, and the endless Fast and Furious sequels. However, today’s announcement from NBCUniversal is noteworthy because it's not about Fast Forever or another full-length film; it's about a TV series! If you thought The Family ™ was confined to theaters, you’d be mistaken, as Vin Diesel is set to executive produce a show that will stream on Peacock—and that's just the beginning.
“Peacock is launching four shows within the Fast and the Furious universe,” Diesel mentioned.
What exactly does that entail? I'm not entirely certain. It seems there could be up to four different episodic series, which aligns with the franchise's previous production consistency. Alternatively, Diesel might mean there are four separate yet interconnected episodes within the Fast universe. Deadline leans toward the first interpretation, mentioning sources who claim that one of the series is already established at Peacock.
“As you all know, we hold these movies very dear, but over the past decade, we've come to realize that fans crave more; they want us to broaden the stories and legacies of the characters,” Diesel stated during a presentation at NBCUniversal on Monday morning. “For the last ten years, there has been a strong desire for us to venture into television.”
“That’s when I understood that the essence of the characters, their global appeal, and what makes us feel like family would be safeguarded in the television medium,” Diesel added.
The only detail revealed about the series is that it will be live-action. Sam Vincent will join Diesel as an executive producer, alongside Neal Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Chris Morgan, and Jeff Kirschenbaum. While I'm not familiar with all these individuals, it's my understanding that each has previously worked on Fast films, either as writers or producers.
There's significant excitement surrounding Fast and Furious as the original movie celebrates its 25th anniversary. It will even have a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival, which is quite prestigious. All of this should keep the buzz alive until Fast Forever, expected to be the final installment of the film series, premieres on March 17, 2028.
