Hadjar expresses approval regarding the FIA's withdrawal from the 2026 engine regulations.
"Based on what they have agreed upon, it can only lead to positive outcomes."
Isack Hadjar believes that Formula 1 is "finally going in the right direction" after the FIA and manufacturers reached a preliminary agreement to relax the disputed 2026 engine regulations. Following a significant rules meeting on Friday with the FIA, FOM, team leaders, and all five power unit manufacturers, the governing body announced plans for further "evolutionary changes" starting in 2027. The FIA stated that the rule adjustments implemented earlier this month in Miami had already "enhanced competition" and decreased excessive energy harvesting. Additional modifications are currently being assessed, but the most significant development was the in-principle agreement for a substantial recalibration between combustion and electric power from 2027 onward.
The proposal suggests that the output from the internal combustion engine would increase by approximately 50kW, alongside an increase in fuel flow, while electric deployment would decrease by about 50kW. Speaking to AFP at the Grand Prix De France Historique at Paul Ricard, Hadjar openly expressed his approval of the direction being taken. "It’s going in the right direction because nobody likes what we started with in 2026," he remarked, referring to the current 50-50 balance between combustion and electric power. "It's evident that we need to seek solutions to enhance the situation, not worsen it."
"For next year, with the agreement reached, it can only take us in a better direction." The 21-year-old Frenchman also showcased a Vettel-era Red Bull V8 car at the event, clearly indicating his preferences. "That’s my vision of driving," Hadjar smiled. "Whether it’s electric or noisy, as long as I achieve my top speed before braking, that’s what a race car is all about." He described the old V8 cars as "a completely different experience."
"The car is light, there’s much less downforce," Hadjar noted. "It has incredibly strong braking and produces fantastic sound." Despite Red Bull’s challenging start to the new era, Hadjar remains hopeful about the team’s competitiveness in the future. "By the end of the year, we’ll have a car that reflects significant progress," he predicted. "And next year, we’ll begin the season with a car capable of winning races. I’ll definitely be there."
