Wendly: The drive shaft on Mercedes No. 3 has failed.
A technical problem that occurred on the Verstappen Racing team's car during the 21st hour of the marathon at Nordschleife has dashed crew No. 3's hopes for a good result. However, they are expected to continue the race. The mechanics are doing everything they can, but the repair is taking longer than anticipated. Despite this, the drivers are determined to return to the track so that the crew can be officially classified. For now, however, it remains in the garage.
Stefan Wendl, the racing director of Mercedes-AMG, confirmed that the issue is related to the transmission – specifically, a failure of the right drive shaft:
"Right after the pit stop, we received a signal about a malfunction in the ABS system, so we initially thought it was due to a technical failure. We tried to reboot the onboard systems, and Daniel Huncadella also confirmed that he was working on it, but then some unusual noises appeared, and he had to return to the pits after two laps.
It turned out that the drive shaft had failed, which unfortunately also caused damage to the hub and other peripheral components of the right rear axle."
According to the timing, Mercedes No. 3 has already dropped to 20th position, while the car remains in the pits.
