Formula E: Roland's Victory and Drugovich's First Podium
Oliver Rowland, Nissan driver and reigning Formula E champion, won the Sunday race in Monaco. He crossed the finish line ahead of Edoardo Mortara, who received a 10-second penalty for spinning António Félix da Costa's car on the first lap at Nouvelle Chicane after exiting the tunnel. The Portuguese driver, racing for Jaguar Racing, was in second place at the time and lost many positions after the incident; however, the nature of the battle on the classic street circuit was so chaotic that closer to the finish, António managed to recover and ultimately finished in 3rd place.
In second place was our old acquaintance – Felipe Drugovich, now racing for Andretti in Formula E. This is the Brazilian's first podium in the electric series, and one of the first to congratulate him on his success was Audi F1 driver Gabriel Bortoleto, his friend and fellow countryman.
Mitch Evans finished in 4th place, having led the individual standings of the electric series yesterday and solidifying his advantage today – he now has 128 points. Rowland moved up to second place, marking his first victory of the season.
Pascal Wehrlein, who led the championship before this weekend, did not score any points in Monaco – today his Porsche electric car was involved in several incidents, and he finished only 12th. In the individual standings, he is now fourth, having been surpassed by Mortara as well.
Moreover, the points scored by Evans and da Costa allowed Jaguar Racing to overtake Porsche and take the lead in the team standings.
Dan Ticktum, who won two consecutive poles in Monaco, finished far down in 14th place – partly because he caused the stewards some work in both races, being penalized yesterday and today. In particular, on Sunday he violated the rules regarding the use of Attack Mode, the power boost mode.
The next, 11th round of the season will take place on June 20 in China at the street circuit in the resort city of Sanya on Hainan Island. This track has hosted a Formula E race before, but that was a long time ago – in 2019.
