Rumors: Is the BYD group interested in Horner's services?
There have been various discussions about the future of Christian Horner in recent months, some of which are based on certain facts, while others resemble unconfirmed rumors. At the same time, a number of media outlets, including Sky Sports, are putting forward another version that is quite intriguing in its own way. The Chinese corporation BYD is showing interest in Formula 1, and we reported at the end of April that its management confirms this. The automotive giant, with an annual turnover expected to exceed $100 billion in 2025, is already in negotiations with the championship's management, including discussions about the possibility of creating its own factory team. Since BYD aims to establish a strong position in the European electric vehicle market, it held a very bright and large-scale marketing event in Cannes last weekend, where the famous film festival is taking place these days. It was there that Christian Horner was spotted in the company of Stella Li, the vice president of the corporation. Furthermore, there are rumors that he also met with Wang Chuanfu, the head of BYD. It is quite logical to assume that the corporation is simply trying to determine the extent to which Horner might be interested in collaboration if a course towards Formula 1 is indeed taken. At the same time, it is clear that such a project could be quite long-term, and if the former head of Red Bull Racing wants to return to the paddock quickly, this scenario may not suit him very well. However, it is within the framework of such a project that Horner's managerial talents could emerge, as, for example, the products of the Red Bull Powertrains division, which debuted in the World Championship this year, turned out to be quite high-quality, and he was the one who managed the implementation of this complex program. With such experience, he is capable of handling any other new project – it can be assumed that BYD understands this.
