Horner reemerges as connections with BYD gain traction.
Christian Horner is increasingly resurfacing in the motorsport scene as speculation grows regarding a return to Formula 1, with the Chinese company BYD now significantly associated with his future ventures. Since departing Red Bull, the former team principal has mostly kept a low profile, but it is now thought that the restrictions from his gardening leave have come to an end.
Horner made an appearance at the Monaco E-Prix over the weekend, where he candidly expressed his enjoyment of life outside of Formula 1. "I’ve been down to the MotoGP, having a look at the bikes," he mentioned to Talksport. "For the first time in 30 years, I’ve had a little bit of time off, mainly with my family, so it’s been good. I came as a guest with the Liberty guys, and it’s great to see how this championship is doing."
However, his recent appearances are also sparking increased speculation about a possible future initiative involving BYD. Shortly after the Monaco event, Horner was seen at a BYD-related gathering in Cannes linked to the company's 'Build Your Dreams' film awards project. Reports indicate that Horner has met with BYD's vice president, Stella Li, at least twice, amid growing rumors in the paddock.
The speculation suggests a range of possibilities, from a Horner-backed twelfth Formula 1 team to a potential partnership with BYD related to the 24 percent stake in Alpine currently owned by Otro Capital. The speculation has been fueled further by Horner’s appearance in BYD’s social media videos promoting the Cannes event. The Chinese manufacturer has also been linked to broader aspirations in Formula 1 recently, including reported interest in purchasing Alpine or Renault’s former Formula 1 engine facility at Viry-Chatillon.
