Berman: The effectiveness of the new products still needs to be tested.
In contrast to most teams, Haas F1 almost did not upgrade the car for the previous stage in Miami, but prepared a whole range of innovations for the Canadian Grand Prix. Oliver Berman was asked what hopes he associates with this.
Oliver Berman: "We started the season well, but we faced more difficulties in Miami because we fell out of the overall rhythm, as other teams introduced technical innovations at that stage. We were the only ones without them, but that was exactly how we planned to operate. I hope that in Canada we can return to the level of competitiveness we had in the early stages of the season.
The plan is to improve lap times a bit – this should be aided by increased downforce and a more balanced chassis. The team has worked hard on the innovations, but of course, we still need to check how effective they will be in real life.
In the early stages of the season, we benefited somewhat from the fact that our car turned out to be quite reliable, and we were able to take advantage of the difficulties faced by other teams. But it was clear that our competitors would quickly figure everything out; it was just a matter of time.
The range of innovations we prepared for Montreal is aimed specifically at increasing downforce, and since the new technical regulations came into effect relatively recently, each set of innovations is quite significant in terms of key performance indicators. But all teams are making progress, so it is important that each updated element works truly effectively.
This is important also because the team is already working on the next set of updates, which is based on the innovations we brought to Canada. But judging by the calculations made during aerodynamic studies and in the simulator, everything looks quite positive. I hope we can confirm this when we start working on the track."
