Ferrari is waiting for permission from the FIA to modify the engine.
The upcoming Monaco Grand Prix is important for Ferrari for two reasons. First, the team needs to demonstrate that the strengths of the SF-26 car, chassis, and aerodynamics really work on a street circuit where engine power plays a lesser role. Second, in Maranello, they are awaiting a decision from the FIA regarding the ADUO program, which gives struggling manufacturers additional opportunities to refine their power units. As reported today by the Italian press, Ferrari hopes to implement two engine updates to reduce the gap to Mercedes, which is currently estimated at about 25 horsepower. The team hopes that the first updates will allow them to make up about half of the deficit, and the second will bring them even closer to their rivals. Rumor has it that the first update may debut at the end of June at the Austrian Grand Prix. The second will have to wait until the end of the summer break. The Scuderia will try to prepare the new features for the stage in Zandvoort. Thus, the Dutch Grand Prix will serve as a sort of preparation for Ferrari's home race in Monza. The updates for Spielberg are already ready, while the second package of updates still needs to undergo a series of stand tests for reliability, and this work will take about two months. Essentially, Ferrari now just has to wait for permission from the FIA to upgrade the power unit under the ADUO program.
