The FIA President has set the timeline for the return of V8 engines.
FIA President Mohammed ben Sulayem has outlined the timeline for the return of V8 engines to Formula 1. He published a message on social media assuring that the return will take place no later than 2031, but under certain conditions, it could happen even sooner.
"I am determined to bring V8 engines back to Formula 1," wrote Mohammed ben Sulayem. "Ideally by 2030, but it will definitely happen in 2031 as part of the next FIA regulatory cycle.
V8 engines are lighter, simpler, and more economical, and the use of environmentally friendly fuels allows them to meet our environmental ambitions. Most importantly, these engines bring back that unique and thrilling sound that fans around the world associate with Formula 1."
