Bortoleto: After the first race, expectations for Audi have increased.
Gabriel Bortoleto has not scored points since the first round of the season in Australia. The Audi driver hopes that in Monaco the team will be able to fight for a place in the qualifying final and points in the race.
Gabriel Bortoleto: "I think this weekend could turn out to be successful for us. Of course, we still have a lot to do to improve the car's handling, as we have certain difficulties in this area throughout the season. But when it comes to the chassis as a whole, we are capable of being competitive.
In most qualifying sessions, the team has fought for a place in the final, and we even made it there. In races, it all comes down to getting a good start and then maintaining your positions. We'll see, but I feel that the race in Monaco could bring us pleasant surprises.
You need to drive at the limit on all tracks, but Monaco is a special street circuit – narrow in itself with walls close by. Therefore, driving here needs to be different than on tracks with larger safety zones where there is room for mistakes. In Monaco, any mistake can cost you a lap, and sometimes even lead to a wrecked car, so the approach here definitely needs to be different.
Speaking of Audi's progress this season, it is important to note that the team has done an amazing job in getting the car to the level we are at now. We are fighting for places in the top ten, which is not something that could have been guaranteed in the debut year of the project with our own power unit and a completely new car.
Fighting for points and showing good results in qualifying is already a significant achievement in itself. In Australia, we started the season very strongly, making it to the qualifying final and finishing ninth in the race. After that, expectations have noticeably risen.
The team continues to progress and build a solid foundation for further advancement. I think we can do it. In the last race, both cars finished, the situation was completely under control, but unfortunately, we lacked the pace to earn points. I hope that this weekend we can correct that and achieve a better result."
