Hamilton: Second place is a good result in Monaco.

Lewis Hamilton finished second in Monaco, matching his best result of the season and tying Ayrton Senna for the number of podiums in street races in the principality. Charles Leclerc, his teammate at Ferrari, did not make it to the finish, explaining the strange crash that occurred on lap 64 of the race as a brake system failure.

Lewis Hamilton (2nd): "First of all, I have to congratulate Kimi and the Mercedes team, my old family, they did it again. They built an amazing car, and Kimi is doing a great job, giving it his all every weekend. It's really great, I'm happy for them.

We have improved in recent months, but we still can't catch up with them. We have a lot of serious work ahead to reach their level. But second place is not a bad result in Monaco, especially in such difficult conditions – I’m very pleased."

Charles Leclerc (DNF): "The problem is with the brakes. I want to say that the crumbling asphalt of the track is certainly bad, but the telemetry data speaks for itself. I don’t know how much I can go into details, but it’s all very frustrating.

I am always completely honest, and regardless of how many mistakes I make, I hate making excuses. So in front of the cameras, I am completely honest, but today I am not going to take responsibility for what happened.

The car did not brake at all. I just lightly pressed the pedal, and something happened with the brakes. The front brakes worked much more harshly than I thought, while the rear ones didn’t work at all. It felt like they simply weren’t there.

I have been dealing with such problems since the second race of the season. The brake systems on the two Ferrari cars differ in certain ways, although I don’t think that put me at a disadvantage, but here and in Montreal, where it was also cold, the brakes were unstable, and the tires became too temperamental because we were constantly pushing to the limit. And all of this turned into a real nightmare.

Right now, I have to choose my words carefully, although there’s not much to say. I looked like an idiot, and when you look like an idiot because of your own mistake, that’s okay. But today we were in a dangerous situation. We already have a solution to this problem, and starting from the next race, my car will be in roughly the same configuration as Lewis's car. This should solve the issues we’ve been dealing with until now.

I don’t rule out that with the configuration that Lewis's SF-26 has, there will be some other difficulties, but right now I just need to achieve stability."
