Honda denies having any objections to the changes in F1 engine regulations.
"We have not yet reviewed the FIA’s proposal."
Honda has dismissed claims that it is obstructing Formula 1's proposed engine changes for 2027 and has indicated a willingness to consider a return to V8 engines. The Japanese automaker has been rumored to oppose the suggested alterations to the 2027 regulations, which may lessen the heavy dependency on electric power following significant criticism from drivers and teams. However, HRC president Koji Watanabe asserts that such reports are false. "For us, safety and maintaining the appeal of F1 for fans are the top priorities, so we are open to initiatives aimed at bettering the current situation," he told Spain’s Soy Motor. "Some reports have suggested that we oppose revisions to the 2027 regulations, but that is incorrect. We respect the decisions made by the FIA." The FIA is set to propose plans to manufacturers that focus on enhancing the racing experience while upholding the fundamental principles of the new engine formula. Honda plans to evaluate these details upon receipt. "We haven’t yet seen the FIA’s proposal, so we will review it once we have it," said Watanabe. "Adapting to rapid changes and unforeseen circumstances is a key aspect of F1, and that’s what makes taking on the challenge worthwhile. Developing our technology in such an environment has been Honda’s focus since the company was established, and that’s where we find value in competing in F1." Honda has also joined other manufacturers in expressing a readiness to support a future transition to V8 engines utilizing sustainable fuels. Ford, General Motors, Red Bull Honda, and even Mercedes have already shown interest in exploring a simpler engine formula beyond the present regulations. "We believe that F1 should always be a showcase of cutting-edge technology, whether the internal combustion engine has 12, 10, 8, or 6 cylinders," Watanabe remarked. "Regarding a V8 engine, we have not received any detailed proposals yet, so we can’t comment on specifics, but we are open to discussing it. We trust that F1 and the FIA will make the right decisions for the sport. We support any advancements that enhance the racing spectacle for fans."
