Luke Browning will conduct training in Barcelona and Austria.
The Williams team announced that Luke Browning, who will serve as the reserve driver in 2026, will conduct two practice sessions behind the wheel of the FW48: next Friday during the first session he will replace Alex Albon, and in Austria, he will drive Carlos Sainz's car.
This is not Luke's first experience of this kind; he has already substituted for the main drivers of Williams during practice, but he will be piloting a new generation car for the first time. Additionally, this season he is competing in the Japanese Super Formula series and currently holds 8th place in the individual standings after five rounds of the season.
Luke Browning: "I can't wait to get behind the wheel of the FW48 for the first time, and with the opportunity to drive this car at two stages of the European leg of the season, this experience will be even more exciting and important.
I am working hard to prepare for this, to make the most of the practice sessions, and to help the team execute its program ahead of these two weekends. I am very grateful to everyone at Williams F1 Team for their trust and support!"
Sven Smits, sporting director: "Luke remains a valuable member of the team due to his work in the simulator and results on the track. We are giving him the opportunity to drive the FW48 for the first time during the days of the two race weekends – this is an important step in his professional development and a natural continuation of his work.
The Williams Racing Academy is home to talented young drivers, and we are pleased to provide them with such opportunities to continue progressing and developing."
