Max Verstappen: We don't have the best engine in Formula 1.
Max Verstappen commented on the FIA's decision to label the Red Bull power unit as a benchmark within the ADUO program. The Red Bull Racing driver mentioned that everyone in the team was surprised by such news.
Max Verstappen: "I think we were all a bit surprised by this news, and that's why we're currently in talks with the FIA, trying to understand how such conclusions were drawn and based on what data. We still have a lot to discuss and analyze.
From the outside, one might say, 'Yes, that's impressive.' But we were surprised ourselves because we don't believe we currently have the best engine in Formula 1.
However, we cannot overlook the work of Red Bull Powertrains and Ford. If we look at the situation objectively, we are definitely not among the laggards, and what they have achieved in such a short time is truly impressive. Of course, we still have some reliability issues, but overall, it's very nice to be part of this project, to see the people's attitude, and to understand what they want to achieve.
They are never completely satisfied with the result. I am never completely satisfied either, and they get just as frustrated when things don't go according to plan.
So, on one hand, we are proud of the work done. But on the other hand, we are a bit puzzled by being suddenly called the best, because we don't feel that way ourselves yet."
