George Russell: Ferrari made an impression
George Russell started from pole in Barcelona, but in the fight for victory, he was overtaken by Lewis Hamilton thanks to a three-stop strategy. George could have lost second place as well, since he was passed by Kimi Antonelli, but the championship leader retired due to technical issues with the car a few laps before the finish.
George Russell (2nd): "First of all, huge congratulations to Lewis. I know how hard he works, as we spent many years together at Mercedes. I'm glad to see Lewis back.
It was a tough day for us, but it's good to be back on the podium and to have a clean race. But today Ferrari made an impression. We need to keep attacking.
Friday and Saturday were strong for me, but today was a bit more challenging. The start went well, I confidently completed the first stint, but the last two were more difficult. But as I said, it's nice to be back on the podium.
Yesterday was a surprise for the team, and today Lewis showed incredible pace. So yes, I think Ferrari is closing the gap."
Kimi Antonelli (16th): "I think we were the fastest today. Okay, at the end of the race Lewis was very quick, but in the second stint we were very fast, so the pace is fine.
Of course, after the virtual safety car, it was impossible to catch Lewis, but I'm very happy for him and his victory. It's nice to see him achieve his first win with Ferrari, but at the same time, I'm very disappointed. I feel empty, but that happens to everyone. The most important thing is to come back stronger.
There’s no doubt that Ferrari is in incredible shape. They have a reliable and fast car, so we need to make the most of every opportunity. It's clear that the season won't be easy, but I'm already looking forward to the next race because I want to get back to where we left off and finish."
