Rovanpera authorized to continue his Formula 1 journey.
Kalle Rovanpera's aspirations of entering Formula 1 have received a significant uplift after Toyota announced that the two-time world rally champion has been given medical clearance to continue his racing program.
The Finnish driver surprised the motorsport community when he shifted his focus from rallying to a serious single-seater career, with plans already in place to compete in Japan's Super Formula series.
However, those intentions were unexpectedly interrupted when Rovanpera developed a condition that caused dizziness, which prevented him from participating in early single-seater testing and racing for health reasons.
Now, Toyota Gazoo Racing has stated that the 25-year-old is prepared to restart his journey, as he has made "strong progress in his recovery over recent weeks."
"Since his intended participation in Super Formula this season was paused due to health issues, Kalle has taken the time to recover and prioritize his well-being. With his recovery moving in a positive direction, he has already resumed physical training and can now anticipate a gradual return to driving," the announcement mentioned.
Toyota disclosed that Rovanpera has been collaborating closely with Finland’s Institute of High Performance Sport, known as KIHU, during his recovery.
"Recognized for its support of Finland’s Olympic and national team athletes, KIHU has offered scientific expertise to enhance Rovanpera’s recovery and training and has now cleared him to return to the track."
Toyota stated that the goal is for Rovanpera to return to racing in 2027, and further announcements will be made in due course.
