Rovanpera given the green light to continue on his Formula 1 trajectory.

Kalle Rovanpera’s aspirations for a future in Formula 1 have received a significant boost as Toyota confirmed that the two-time world rally champion has been medically cleared to continue with his racing program.

The Finn startled the motorsport community when he decided to step away from rallying to pursue a serious single-seater career, announcing his plans to compete in Japan’s Super Formula series. However, those plans were suddenly interrupted when Rovanpera developed a condition causing dizziness, which medically disqualified him following initial single-seater tests and races.

Now, Toyota Gazoo Racing has stated that the 25-year-old is prepared to resume his journey, having made "strong progress in his recovery over recent weeks."

"Since his intended participation in Super Formula this season was postponed for medical reasons, Kalle has taken the time to recover and concentrate on his health. With his recovery going well, he has already recommenced physical training and can now anticipate a gradual return to driving," the statement added.

Toyota disclosed that Rovanpera has been collaborating closely with Finland’s Institute of High Performance Sport (KIHU) throughout his recovery. "Best known for assisting Finland’s Olympic and national athletes, KIHU has offered scientific guidance to optimize Rovanpera’s recovery and training and has now cleared him to return to the track."

Toyota mentioned that the goal is for Rovanpera to be back in racing by 2027 and will provide further updates in due course.
