Audi's demonstration run fuels speculation about the ADUO engine.
"We just don't have enough power."
Audi has sparked rumors that it might be assessing an upgraded power unit under Formula 1’s contentious ADUO equalization system. The German automaker tested its 2026 car on Wednesday at its Neuburg site, where it completed a demonstration run for employees. This exercise was officially restricted to just 15 kilometers. Demonstration runs are one of the most limited forms of Formula 1 testing, allowing for much less running than filming days, which can go up to 200 kilometers and can be used to confirm updates and collect basic performance data. The speculation arises as Audi driver Gabriel Bortoleto pointed out engine performance as the team's most significant weakness. "We have a very good car with reliable balance," the Brazilian noted. While he commended the chassis, the 21-year-old was noticeably more critical of the power unit. "We simply lack power," Bortoleto acknowledged. "If you examine the GPS data, the difference is very clear." Audi is one of the manufacturers eligible for engine development opportunities under the ADUO system, introduced to ensure suppliers do not lag significantly behind due to Formula 1’s new regulations.
