Red Bull wants to make changes to Verstappen's contract.
We have already reported that Max Verstappen refused to confirm to Red Bull that he would fulfill his current contract with the team. The German tabloid Bild managed to find out that the team wants to make changes to his contract.
At the beginning of summer, a meeting took place in Austria involving Max Verstappen, his manager Raymond Vermeulen, Red Bull's executive director for corporate projects and investments Oliver Mintzlaff, and two co-owners of the company, Mark Mateschitz and Chalerm Yoovidhya. The meeting discussed an option where Red Bull would buy out a clause in the driver's contract that allows him to leave Red Bull Racing early.
However, as is often the case, the parties could not agree on the price. Bild does not report the exact amount but claims that the question is about several tens of millions of euros.
Allegedly, Yoovidhya is willing to pay that much, but Mintzlaff and Mateschitz are against it, adhering to the philosophy that no one can be more important than Red Bull. As a result, the parties have not yet managed to reach an agreement.
