It appears that eventually, every automaker ends up revealing a crucial detail about an upcoming vehicle by accidentally publishing it on their website. Slate, it seems, opted to get ahead of the game (before even launching a single vehicle), and did so dramatically by leaking the starting price of their no-frills electric pickup: $24,950.

A reader from The Autopian noticed this, and it wasn't hidden too deeply. It appears someone overlooked the metadata on Slate's preorder page, as it was published containing the following message:

The Slate Truck comes with all the essentials for the CONFIDENTIAL price of $24,950 (a reminder: we’re still under NDA and can’t share this).

While this isn't official, with Slate’s official pricing announcement set for June 24th just a week away, it seems quite credible. It's also significantly higher than Slate's initial promise of a sub-$20,000 price, which took into account electric car incentives that are no longer applicable.

Sadly for Slate, that's not the only challenge facing its new budget-friendly pickup. Ford is offering a more feature-rich option for only slightly more money, and additionally, Slate will have to contend with the increasing number of off-lease used EVs that will soon flood the market.

We have contacted Slate for comments regarding this apparent accidental leak. We will update this story if we receive a response.
