In Formula 1, the possibility of holding a sprint in Monaco is being discussed.
The list of stages that will take place in 2027 in the format of Friday qualifying and Saturday sprint has not yet been determined, however, Formula 1 already has some ideas. According to the Italian publication RMC Motori, one of the sprints next year may take place in Monaco. On this classic street circuit, the race result largely depends on qualifying, so Formula 1 has decided to double the number of qualifying sessions to increase viewer interest. In such a scenario, there will be only one Friday practice in Monaco, after which the qualifying for the sprint will take place, followed by the sprint on Saturday morning, and another qualifying session for the main Sunday race in the afternoon. There is no official confirmation yet, but representatives of Liberty Media have already discussed this option with representatives of the Principality. Additionally, the publication managed to learn Liberty Media's plans in case the situation in the Middle East does not allow for the last two stages of the season to be held in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. In such a scenario, two consecutive race weekends will take place at the Portimão circuit, which already hosted the Portuguese Grand Prix in 2020 and 2021 and will return to the Formula 1 calendar in 2027 and 2028.
