Formula E comes to Zandvoort as the venue readies for its future after F1.

"We are still capable of hosting the event."

Zandvoort has already lined up a prominent successor to Formula 1. As the Dutch circuit gears up for its last grand prix in August, Formula E has revealed plans to compete at Zandvoort for the first time in 2027. This decision is part of a larger trend by the electric series to move towards permanent circuits, joining the Circuit of the Americas in Austin and Brands Hatch on the schedule. "Hosting globally recognized tracks like COTA in Austin, Zandvoort, and Brands Hatch sets the perfect stage to highlight our new GEN4 era," stated Formula E co-founder Alberto Longo. The new generation of Formula E cars, expected to launch in 2027, will be capable of reaching speeds of 335 kph, coming close to Formula 1 performance levels. This announcement arrives just weeks before Formula 1’s final race at the Dutch seaside venue. Zandvoort director Robert van Overdijk emphasized that the decision to end the Dutch GP was not financially motivated. "We can still manage the event," he remarked. "It remains a viable business proposition." "However, we need to look forward. At some point, you must consider whether the risks outweigh the advantages. If you can no longer answer that with 'yes', you have to make a business decision," he explained. "We have organized six races, earned the title of Promoter of the Year, and established an event recognized as a global benchmark. So it can be concluded that we have proven ourselves." Van Overdijk acknowledged that a return of Formula 1 in the future seems unlikely. "Never say never," he commented. "Yet if this event is discontinued, I honestly don’t foresee its return. There are many countries and major cities eager to host now. This will be the final instance. Perhaps that is why it will be the most unforgettable of all."
