McLaren believes that the Red Bull Ring track is suitable for the MCL40.

Before the Austrian Grand Prix, McLaren conducted a detailed analysis of the information gathered from previous championship stages, which contributed to a further understanding of the MCL40's characteristics, and the process of upgrading the car continues.

Since Lando Norris stepped onto the podium in Barcelona, the team believes they have made an important step forward and will try to build on that success this weekend, especially since a year ago, McLaren drivers achieved a winning double in Austria, and in 2024, Oscar Piastri also stood on the podium at the Red Bull Ring.

For the eighth stage of the championship, McLaren is preparing a series of small improvements related to the rear of the chassis and plans to test an experimental rear wing during Friday's practice.

Nick Hold, Technical Director of McLaren Applied Engineering: "Historically, our team has performed well at the Austrian track, and although with such tight results we do not consider a repeat of success guaranteed, we are optimistic. We believe that the characteristics of the Red Bull Ring suit the MCL40, and the drivers will once again be fighting at the front.

We are constantly striving to improve the technology and increase the car's speed. In preparing for this stage, the team focused on implementing small innovations related to the rear of the chassis, and during Friday's practice, we will test the experimental rear wing.

Although the update package is not as extensive as those presented at previous stages, all these improvements are also part of a modernization plan designed for the entire season, and we continue to take every opportunity to improve lap times.

We are also preparing for the possibility of rainy weather this weekend, which will allow us to test the car's performance in such conditions. This season, we have to learn very quickly, and it is crucial to understand how to manage energy and power on a wet track – this will help optimize every parameter of the car and maximize its efficiency regardless of the conditions."
