REC: Continuation of the struggle in the second stage of the season
On Saturday, June 27, the second stage of the Russian Endurance Racing Series (REC) Grand Prix Sports will take place at the Moscow Raceway in the Moscow region. The four-hour marathon will gather a representative lineup of participants – 41 crews are ready to start, divided into five classes: CN Pro, GT Pro, GT, GT Light, and TCE.
After the season opening in May, which was memorable for teams due to challenging rainy conditions, the REC series returns to the racetrack designed by Hermann Tilke. The track configuration, which is 3955 meters long, includes 15 turns of varying difficulty and a long straight, requiring engineers to find a compromise between downforce in the technical sector and maximum speed.
The main sporting intrigue of the weekend revolves around the differences in racing technology concepts. In the fight for victory in the overall standings, lightweight specialized sport prototypes in the CN Pro category will compete against body cars in the GT3 class (GT Pro).
In the first stage, crew No. 90 from the Vracing team won the overall standings in an Audi R8 LMS GT3, driven by Alexander Vartanyan and Kirill Smal. On the dry asphalt of Moscow Raceway, competitors in prototypes will attempt to leverage their aerodynamic advantage and lower weight to seek revenge.
According to the team, the Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo2 holds the line excellently on wet asphalt and effectively utilizes downforce in the slow sections of Moscow Raceway. However, Vracing emphasizes that the key intrigue in endurance racing always remains reliability and stability throughout the entire distance.
The highlight of the stage will be the debut of the new Russian sport prototype "Phantom." The project is developed under the guidance of the renowned domestic designer Igor Ermilin, who previously worked on the Marussia and ROSSA cars.
As part of the Grand Prix Sports, the "Phantom" prototype will conduct its first full tests under real racing weekend conditions to collect telemetry and check the reliability of its components. The name of the driver who will first take the car on the track will be announced before the start.
Intense competition is expected in the TCE and GT Light categories. Due to the large number of applications submitted in the GT Light class, the organizers were forced to prematurely limit the acceptance of documents due to the grid and pit space limits at the racetrack.
The Saturday schedule of the REC weekend coincides with the qualifying session of the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring. Nevertheless, modern multimedia platforms and high-speed internet allow fans to combine watching several racing series.
For Russian motorsport fans, the REC marathon at Moscow Raceway is of great interest, as the series provides an opportunity to observe the development of engineering projects and the tactical battles of teams within the framework of the national championship, which is an important part of the overall racing culture.
In addition to the sporting component, the organizers have prepared a program for fans in the paddock, which will be accessible with tickets.
14:30 – Opening of the racetrack for spectators, start of pre-race activities;
18:00 – Start of the 4-hour REC marathon;
22:00 – Finish;
A live broadcast of all four hours of the race will be available on the official media resources of the REC series and specialized sports channels.
