Rumors surrounding Monaghan increase the pressure on Red Bull.

"I can envision something occurring at that level."

Fresh speculation about longtime chief engineer Paul Monaghan has contributed to the feeling of turbulence at Red Bull as the team readies for an important home race in Austria. Ralf Schumacher has suggested that Monaghan might be leaving after he recently made rare public remarks that seemed to counter criticism from Max Verstappen. "Only someone like Monaghan made a somewhat critical comment about it," Schumacher told Sky Deutschland. "However, what I'm hearing is that he won’t be with them for much longer and is already transitioning somewhere else."

Schumacher emphasized that he couldn't verify this information, but pointed out that it was significant that Monaghan publicly challenged the dominant narrative surrounding Verstappen. "It was the first time someone officially dared to speak out against that image," he stated.

These rumors arise as Red Bull is eager to persuade Verstappen to stay beyond this season, despite a clause in his contract allowing for departure. Following a recent meeting in Salzburg that included Verstappen, his manager Raymond Vermeulen, Mark Mateschitz, Chalerm Yoovidhya, Oliver Mintzlaff, and team principal Laurent Mekies, Bild reported that Red Bull is looking to buy out the Dutchman's release clause, with similar discussions anticipated during the upcoming Austrian GP.

Schumacher believes this race will also be critical for technical director Pierre Wache, whose significantly updated RB22 is set to debut. "If Pierre Wache is able to present a completely revamped car at the Red Bull Ring and they're back at the front and notably competitive, then I think Max’s confidence in the team will be high again," he remarked. "If it doesn't turn out well, then I can foresee something happening at that level."

Schumacher also suggested that Red Bull continues to feel the absence of former advisor Dr. Helmut Marko, who will make his first appearance since retiring this weekend at Zeltweg. "I can't stress this enough - it's Dr. Marko who always had that role," he stated. "Oliver Mintzlaff can perform his job as well as he wishes, but he simply lacks experience in Formula 1."
