"He is a capable driver and has an excellent training program."

Formula 2 champion Leonardo Fornaroli has surfaced as a top contender for a race seat with Haas in 2027, amid growing speculation regarding Esteban Ocon’s future. The Italian joins a competitive lineup of names associated with Haas, which includes Toyota-backed Jack Doohan, Ferrari junior Rafael Camara, and Red Bull reserve Yuki Tsunoda, whose affiliation with Japan aligns with the team's partnership with Toyota. Recently, Denmark’s Ekstra Bladet reported that reigning Formula 2 champion Fornaroli, age 21, is very much in the mix. Earlier this month, Haas evaluated the McLaren junior using a two-year-old Formula 1 car at Jerez.

"I’m unsure about the direction we’re taking, but the aim of our TPC program is to create opportunities for young drivers," said team boss Ayao Komatsu in Austria. The test garnered attention since Fornaroli is affiliated with McLaren’s driver program, while Haas’ TPC sessions are typically operated by Toyota with a focus on nurturing Japanese talent.

"Leo is the current F2 champion; he is a strong driver and has a solid training program with McLaren, so we are pleased to have the opportunity to assess him further," explained Komatsu. Fornaroli clinched the Formula 2 title in his rookie season after previously securing the Formula 3 championship, a remarkable achievement that has placed him firmly on Formula 1’s radar. However, Komatsu was cautious not to speculate about his existing lineup. "I’m not sure if we need a new driver since my attention is focused on our two current drivers."
