Andrea Stella, team principal of McLaren, commented on the results of the Austrian Grand Prix, where Oscar Piastri finished fourth and Lando Norris took seventh place.

Andrea Stella: "Oscar drove a confident race, gaining positions thanks to his own speed and finishing ahead of the Ferrari cars. Lando was in a more difficult situation, and in his case, we couldn't make significant progress. He lost a position at the start, after which he found himself in an unfavorable position.

But we must admit that our level of competitiveness is not high enough to fight for the podium unless one of our competitors has technical issues, as was the case in Barcelona.

With the third of the season behind us, we have always said that this year's championship would turn into a race of upgrades. In Austria, we saw that the Red Bull Racing team introduced a range of technical innovations, allowing them to compete for victory. The same was true for Ferrari in Barcelona, and for us in Miami, and we continue to work hard to soon have the opportunity to contend for podiums and victories.

We are also upgrading our chassis, work on the new features is ongoing, but certain positive aspects can be noted even now: we managed to outpace Ferrari because our car interacts well with the tires, and the team chose the right strategy and executed it clearly. We maintained patience, did not make an overly early first pit stop, and Oscar drove excellently.

After the stage in Barcelona, we drew certain conclusions, Oscar took them into account and showed a decent result. However, we still face the same task – we need to make the MCL40 even faster, but at the same time, we must fully realize the potential of the car.

The next stage will take place in Silverstone, and this is a special race, as it is our home Grand Prix, and the whole team is preparing for it very intensively and purposefully, making every effort to achieve high results."
