McLaren will paint the MCL40 in the colors of the 1966 car.
McLaren Racing, together with its partner Google Gemini, has prepared a special version of the car's livery for the Silverstone stage, inspired by the historical heritage of the British team.
The MCL40s, which will be driven by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri this upcoming weekend, will be painted in the same white and green color scheme as the very first McLaren M2B car, which made its debut in Formula 1 exactly 60 years ago.
In May 1966, Bruce McLaren, the founder of the team, first took to the start of the Monaco Grand Prix in a car bearing his name – however, he did not finish due to an oil leak from the Ford engine. That same year, he earned his first points in the World Championship, and this happened at the British Grand Prix.
According to the team's statistics, the recent race in Monaco was the milestone 1000th Grand Prix for McLaren, and to commemorate this event, Mika Hakkinen, a two-time world champion, drove the legendary M2B car around the iconic circuit.
The official presentation of the unusual car livery will take place on Thursday in London, and all are invited to this ceremony, giving fans the opportunity to closely examine the MCL40 in this livery and appreciate it.
