Randy Singh: Efficiency plays a key role

The preparation of McLaren for the British stage of the season, of course, is not limited to the fact that the team presented a unique version of the MCL40 car design, and Randy Singh, the racing director of the team from Woking, talked about the specifics of preparing for the race in Silverstone.

Randy Singh: "Several previous stages have demonstrated that there is fierce competition among the leaders, as the last three Grands Prix were won by three different drivers.

We expect the fight for victories to continue with the same intensity, involving teams such as Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, and us, so our task is to optimize every aspect of our car to the maximum extent.

The Silverstone track is dominated by long straights and fast corners, but the technical sections, where speeds are lower, are equally important. Efficiency plays a key role, especially since this stage includes a sprint, making it particularly challenging to find the optimal approach to energy usage.

Therefore, drivers need to be absolutely confident in the car to extract the maximum from the technology in the fast sections of the track, as even a small difference in driving approaches can significantly impact lap times.

While the configuration of the British circuit is more organic compared to the tracks in Barcelona and Spielberg, the tires work under special loads there, as there are many fast corners, and conditions throughout the weekend can change.

We are preparing for a weekend with dry, hot weather, which means it will be difficult to control tire performance and prevent overheating. At the same time, we must be ready for unexpected downpours.

Since we have a Saturday sprint, the practice time this weekend is limited to a single session – therefore, it is important to start effective work on the track immediately, quickly absorb information to use it in the main qualifying session and Sunday race. It is quite likely that in such a fierce competition, this will be the factor that determines the outcomes of the British weekend."
