Verstappen brushes off the latest McLaren rumors.
"We understand each other's expectations."
Max Verstappen has downplayed the latest speculation about his future, asserting that nothing has changed despite new reports linking him to McLaren. The most recent rumors arose after it was reported that Verstappen's management reached out to McLaren, with Dutch media claiming a deadline had passed before the Austrian GP for Verstappen to inform Red Bull of his decision regarding a contract exit clause.
Speaking to Dutch media after the race in Austria, Verstappen emphasized that his focus remains consistent. "I've been discussing things with the team for a long time, and nothing will alter that," he stated. "We understand each other's expectations."
When specifically asked about the McLaren rumors, he responded, "I don’t find that relevant, nor do I engage with it."
Verstappen also dismissed AI-generated images circulating online of him in McLaren colors. "That’s all possible now," he remarked. "With AI, it’s easy to mimic."
When pressed again by Viaplay regarding when he might provide clarity on his future, Verstappen declined to comment. "I don't have any updates, so we can move on," he told reporter Chiel van Koldenhoven. When questioned if he had a timeline for making any decisions, he said, "I can’t comment on that either since there’s nothing to discuss at this moment."
He stated his priorities lie elsewhere, saying, "After this, I just want to spend time with my family at home, connect with friends, and look forward to the summer. The rest will work itself out."
Veteran Dutch racer Tom Coronel also rejected the notion that Verstappen might leave Formula 1 entirely. "That's complete nonsense," Coronel told Viaplay. "That’s just emotion, but what else is he supposed to do? He is a racer at heart." "You always aspire to reach the highest possible level."
